I want to present you a case study about one of my projects during my UX/UI Design Bootcamp at Ironhack Berlin. This project was individual and developed within two weeks.
Our task was to apply design thinking methodologies to create a mobile app for The National Wellness Institute.
The purpose of this app was to help companies improve their employees' mental wellness in the workplace.
Mental and physical wellness has become more popular in the past few years. Many companies support their employees' well-being in the workplace by free gym subscriptions, nap/chill rooms, gaming, etc. However, employees may experience more serious problems that need professional help. I have decided to think about how companies can offer professional help to their employees.
Lean Survey Canvas

Before sending out the survey, I created a lean survey canvas as a road map. By taking this canvas into account, I prepared my survey and interview questions.
Survey
I prepared 14 questions for the survey and sent them out to selected online career chat groups.
Key findings from the survey can be summarised as follows:
- Most responders were younger than 35 years old.
- More than half of the participants have stated that they don’t feel good at the workplace.
- Majority of the participants deal with work-related problems by talking with friends or family.
- Only a handful of the participants are already seeing a psychologist. However, the majority would consider getting professional help if it was sponsored by their employer.
- The majority would like to share fully anonymous stats of their mood at the workplace with their company.
Interviews
I also interviewed three people from different cultural backgrounds and industries.
These are the key findings:
- Main problems at work are repetitive/boring tasks, irregular/long working hours, communication problems with colleagues/superiors.
- Expectations from their companies are more events, work-life balance, respect, and training budget.
- Interviewees would see psychologists/mentors sponsored by their company.
- Sharing their stats with the company is fine if it's completely confidential.

I created a UX strategy board to ask the right ''how might we'' question.

Chest app is a mood tracker app where employees can input their daily mood, take notes if they want, and store them anonymously.
The company can check the overall mood of the employees without accessing any personal information.
The app is also offering articles about how to deal with work-related stress. In case the low mood continues for a long time, the app is suggesting a session with a company-sponsored psychologist.
Employees also have an option to share their daily notes with the psychologist through the app. This would help the therapist get up to speed before the first session.

Moodboard
To organize my design ideas, I put all concepts and inspirations in one place to verify the composition and its harmony.

Style tile
I was mostly inspired by the zen stone and sand while deciding on the design. The skeuomorphic style was reflecting this feeling very well so I decided to follow it.
