Our project was about designing a new website for a small bookshop to sell their books online.

Saint George’s is a small and local bookshop located in Berlin. In their shop, they sell new and used books which are only in English.
Interview with the Stakeholder
My teammates Adriana and Sunita arranged a meeting with the stakeholder. Paul is the owner of Saint George’s bookshop. When we asked some questions to understand his perspective and his store’s needs, he told us that he gives importance to people coming to his shop rather than buying it from their website. Even though he wants to keep everything old school, Paul knows that he needs to fill the gap in the market by selling books online.
Jobs to be done, Site map and User flow
With the information we got from Paul, we created jobs to be done story to understand what customers need from an online bookstore and we categorized it into two main ones.

After the main jobs to be done, first we were able to create our site map and then user flow

Our second jobs to be done story was also very important, because both users and Paul thinks that discovering new books with the recommendation of the people who work in the actual shop is valuable for them.
To achieve this feeling in a web site, we decided to put 3 highlighted books recommended by Paul and the other people who work in the bookshop.
Ideate
To understand how to organize the books on the website, we asked people to do card sorting for us. After we got the results from the card sorting phase, we started to build our wireframes.

After we finished Lo-Fi and Mid-Fi, we had a rough plan to design our high fidelity prototype. Since the current website of the bookshop was very outdated and not functional at all, we had to create everything from begining. We took consider of Paul’s request from us and tried to create a minimal designed website.
Learnings
Before this project, we were mostly focusing on the users but this time we had a chance to talk with a stakeholder. It was totally a new experience for me to notice that there is also a stakeholder’s side to take consider too.
Thank you for reading this.
